After trying to breastfeed a newborn who was significantly tongue tied I very quickly got sore, bleeding nipples. I tried these shields along with another brand. He didn't take so well to these as he did the other make. We found that the actual nipple shape was too big for him.
They are easy to use, clean and I like that it comes with a case to keeps them clean and secure. - Strengths:

This is great for breastfeeding when baby struggles to latch on. Only slightly relieves pain. Have to buy a few of these as they get mucky easily. Saves you washing and sterilising after every feed. - Strengths:

'My husband bought these when I was struggling to breastfeed. I had sore, cracked nipples and was about to give up and move to bottle feeding. I think even though these have some design flaws (quite large) they are the thing that helped me the most to continue breastfeeding. My nipples were bleeding and although it still hurt to feed with them on it was nearly as sore as without them! I think my son still managed to feed as well as without them and I used them for about a week which gave my breasts time to heal. It was a pretty miserable experience but these definitely helped! - Strengths:

I used these as they were the only ones my boyfriend could find in the middle of the night from a supermarket. They really helped my baby feed and protected my nipples. My baby never lost weight after birth and I was using these to feed her. They are annoying to use because you have to steralise them, but if you need to use them then it's tough. I used them for around 6 weeks until she started to suck my nipple through the tiny holes in the end (painful!) Then I 'weaned' her off of them. I did buy some others online but the silicon was so hard my baby didn't take to them. - Strengths:

I tried these to help my son latch on as he was tongue tied. These were recommended by the midwife. I tried to use several times but it just wasn’t happening. I could not get the shields to stay on so gave up with them. - Strengths:

This helped my son latch resulting in us bring able to continue breastfeeding however I feel the silicone around then is too much as when he sucked it was flap back and forth sometimes blocking his nose. - Strengths:

Whilst struggling with pain I sent my husband out for shields, he found these in our local supermarket. These got me through some very tough days and were a large part of what kept me going.
Had I thought of shields in more detail before birth I'm not sure I would have picked these, and gone with a style that has less silicone (these are a full circle where as you can get semi-circle versions), though I can't really fault these now I have them. They'll be on stand by for the teething phase... fingers crossed they are not needed! - Strengths:

These enabled me to breastfeed my son as he wouldn't latch without them. They could be a bit tricky to get them to stay in place but got easier with practice. We didn't have a sterilizer so being able to sterilize them in the case they come in was brilliant. The silicone was too high at the top of my nipple so i needed to hold my breast back so my sons nose was free but other than that they were fab. We wouldn't have been able to breastfeed without them. - Strengths:

Everyone has different views with nipple shields.I bought these because I struggled to breastfeed my daughter, she couldn't latch on and these helped, to a degree. But mostly they just made the whole experience difficult, especially when I was out. Most of the time I would have to bring a few spare tops as I always ended up leaking. - Strengths:

Really helped when you had sore nipples when my little girl was first born, and my nipple where in agony. Also helped my little girl not get confused between breast feeding and bottle feeding.
